SANTO DOMINGO HEALTHCARE CENTER

Client: Santo Domingo Tribe

Location: Santo Domingo Pueblo, NM

Size: 14,177 SF

This facility replaces an old and undersized clinic. The design incorporates circular forms at the entry and lobby reminiscent of traditional pueblo structures. The circular waiting space provides patients with a relaxing interior, in what might otherwise be a sterile clinic environment. Sunscreens and an entry trellis provide shade and frame views of the surrounding mesas. Bold colors accentuate the architecture, and help with the overall scale of the building, giving a somewhat modern look to more traditional forms. Sandstone was utilized by the designers both inside and out, which brings to the facility a warmth and traditional feeling that only natural stone can do.

The facility was designed following LEED principles, but was not certified at the request of the Santo Domingo Tribe.
