Nahata Dziil Health Center

Client: Fort Defiance Indian Hospital Board, Inc.

Location : Sanders, AZ

Size: 30,000 SF

Prior to the start of design, the DMA team and Nahata staff visited the Virginia Mason Institute in Seattle for two days of training on the Lean Healthcare/Toyota Production System delivery model. DMA incorporated the Lean strategies the clinic staff had adopted in the physical design of the facility.

The Nahatá Dzííl Health Clinic in Sanders Arizona is a 30,000 SF facility developed around an existing manufacturing building that was originally constructed in the early 90s. When completed Clinic Services will include a walk in Outpatient Clinic, a Pharmacy, Dental Clinic, Optometry, Physical Therapy, Imaging, Behavioral Health, Records, Administration and Facility and Staff Support Space. Exterior upgrades included a new entrance with a covered patient drop-off, a covered ambulance drive and a helistop. The facility was also upgraded with an emergency generator and a new fire protection system.

The project began as a request from the client to assist in the relocation of their existing clinic from a 3200 sq. ft. space into an existing 30,000 sq. ft. warehouse space. They had a need to expand the capacity of their existing clinical services as well as to add new services at the clinic. We helped the client develop a program of spaces to see how much of the new space would be required to meet their needs. Based on the program of spaces they were able to show that they needed the full 30,000 sq. ft. facility.
